School History   

Since its inception RSB has been providing sound ballet training to its students. Our students have worked with numerous Guest Teachers including:  Ana Lobe, Kenya Woods Cooper, Kevin Martin, David Strobbe, Lynn Brennan Tabor, Krista Morana, Dee Hillier, Mary Jo Rimke, Renee Rossi, Leanne Wadenpfuhl, Kim Holsopple, Jenni Nalette, Alison Morey, Rebecca Nicklos, Jody Gentner, Kim Wasielewski and Josh Widick.  Our students have been invited to study at summer programs around the country including:  American Theatre Dance Workshop NYC, Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Chautauqua Institution, Dance Institute at the University of Akron, Joffrey Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pacific Nortwest Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, The Rock School, BalletMet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts, School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, Walnut Hill Conservatory, VERBS Ballet and the former Cleveland San Jose Ballet.

RSB students enjoyed a wealth of performing experience through annual performances ( Nutcracker and Spring Concerts) and invitations to dance at outside performing venues such as the NorthEast Ohio Dance Festival and the Ohio Dance Festival.  RSB has three times participated in the prestigious Youth America Grand Prix Competition in Chicago, Illinois, where our senior division dancers were awarded a third place in the semi-final round of competition in 2001.  In 2004 and 2005 RSB students were invited to the final round of competition in NYC to compete in the Ensemble category.  Also, in 2005 a RSB dancer captured 2nd Place in the Junior Contemporary Category in Chicago and went on to compete in the final round of competition in NYC.

RSB students have been chosen to dance roles  with Pennsylvania Ballet in their Cleveland production of the Nutcracker  at Playhouse Square, with the Kirov Ballet in their Cleveland production of La Bayerdere and with Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular during this production's 2002 season at Playhouse Square. Most recently, former RSB students were invited to perform in the Nutcracker with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet at Playhouse Square in 2011.  

RSB served as the official home of the Royal Youth Ballet Company (RYBC) from 2004-2008.  RYBC was established as an outgrowth of RSB in 2004 by Joanne Hughes Morscher.  Mrs. Morscher served as the RYBC Artistic Director from 2004-2008.  All the members of  the Royal Youth Ballet Company were trained at RSB.

Graduates of RSB have received admittance and scholarships to dance programs at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC, Butler University in Indiana, Broadway Dance Center in NYC, Mercyhurst College, PA, North Carolina Dance Theatre's Conservatory Program, Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts Residency Program, Point Park Conservatory, PA, The Professional Program at Broadway Dance Center, Ohio University, University of Akron Dance Program and the University of Cincinnati's BFA Program.

Graduates have received professional dance contracts to Lake Erie Ballet, MOMIX, Azugano African Contemporary Dance Company, Jennifer Muller-The Works, North Carolina Dance Theatre Trainee and Apprentice Program, New York City Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater and VERBS Ballet. Professional teaching contracts have been given to RSB Graduates at Nashville Ballet, RSB and in many Cleveland area dance studios. Lastly, RSB Alumni can be found working at New York City Ballet for the Balanchine Trust and in executive positions at the Dancing for Classroom programs.
